Elite enduro racer Clare Bennett gives an insight into the start of her season


The second round of the Cannondale British Enduro Series at Dyfi Forest North Wales is just round the corner and will be my first British race of the 2016 season, sooooo excited to race!

After a busy winter of riding bikes in the rain and ming of the Great British weather and having fun throwing weights around the gym I'm excited to see how this season is going to pan out. 

I'm not a big fan of training, well, the use of the word training anyway! So we'll call it race preparation instead! 

The prep.......
I've joined a new gym, The Unit, and I'm really getting into some Olympic lifting, full body complex lifts really do give you a good work out. Still carrying on my with the back squat I've also added clean and jerk and snatch to my repertoire.
If the week allows I try to get to a strength and conditioning class or a x-fit class too to get a good sweat on.

Yoga, I started going to a Vinyasa Yoga class at the end of summer last year. It takes place on a Monday night which is fab if the weekend has been busy riding or racing. It's a great way to stretch off, totally switch off to the world and regain some focus.

And riding of course! I've been getting out all over the place riding bikes with mates. South Wales riding at Afan, Bike Park Wales, and Cwmcarn. North Wales riding at the Marin, Coed y Brenin, Llandegla, Penmachno, Betws Y Coed. Lake District riding at Grizedale forest and around Ambleside. Chile for the Andes Pacifico 5 day enduro race. Many different trail surfaces and weathers encounter, hopefully making me more adaptable!

I'm not sure how I'll compare to the other elite women racing at Dyfi at the weekend but what I do know is that I've done everything I can whilst working full time to give me good shot of doing well. I love the Dyfi forest, it's a wild, steep and technical place to race. My aim is to keep upright because on the bike is definitely faster than off it and to have fun. If I'm having fun I'm relaxed!
