Three races in seven days? - Emma Knight

June 18, 2018

After not having entered any races since for a couple of weeks I've somehow managed to end up at three in the space of seven days - one of them being a National round of the Cross-country series.

I had raced the first two rounds of the National XC (missed the third) but hadn't really enjoyed them as much as I thought I would - the fourth round was down in Ipswich (a 4 hour drive from home). There was only five of us entered in my category, I knew this would make it hard because as soon as you loose a wheel you are riding alone with nothing to push yourself. The course was good fun and I enjoyed racing it but was alone for the whole race, finished in 5th place and left feeling a bit dejected about racing.

A day spent shopping in Manchester (something that doesn't happen very often) with my bridesmaids looking for dresses cheered me right up the day after - we found the dresses :)
Three days later and I found myself at one of the local Midweek MTB Madness XC races at Chorlton Water Park in Manchester - had a quick practice lap and loved the course, it suited my kind of racing and I was feeling good. The women set off behind the men at these races and I didn't get the best of starts but managed to be the leading woman for the first half a lap, Alison the lady in 2nd caught me half way round the lap and normally I would have just let her ride away from me but I decided to sit on her wheel for as long as possible and see what happened. Turns out I managed to hold her wheel for the 2nd half of the lap easily and decided to attack as she slowed down on a hill .... I didn't see her again for the rest of the race and took the win.
Two races and I left with very different feelings from them - I think the different emotions experienced through racing is the reason why I'm so addicted to it! A couple of days rest before the 3rd race this weekend at Grizedale forest.
